A big decision has been
taken in the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding
Board Examinations to be conducted in this pandemic. In this meeting the 12th
Class Board Exam decision has been cancelled. Defence Minister Rajnath
Singh, Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan,
Nirmala Sitharaman and many senior officials of the Ministry of
Education were present in this meeting. On the decision to cancel 12th Class
CBSE Examination, PM Narendra Modi said that the health and safety
of students is of utmost importance. Their safety is our priority in this
pandemic. There will be no compromise on that aspect. Anxiety among students,
parents and teachers must end. Students should not be forced to take the exam
in such a stressful situation.
The government issued a
statement saying that like last year, if some students wish to take the
examination, then such an option will be provided to them by CBSE if the
situation becomes favourable. In view of the uncertain circumstances caused by Covid
19 and the response received from stakeholders, it has been decided that
Class 12 Board Examination will not be conducted this year. CBSE will take steps
to compile the results of Class 12 students as per well defined objective
criteria in a time bound manner.
Earlier, Union
Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank was about to take a decision
on Board Exams today, but after a sudden deterioration in his health, he has
been admitted to AIIMS in Delhi. The Ministry of Education
has to inform the Supreme Court of its decision regarding the
examinations by June 03. On May 31, the central government had
sought two days' time from the Supreme Court to decide on the
examinations. In such a situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself
will preside over this meeting.
CBSE
had on April 14 announced the cancellation of Class 10 exams and
postponement of Class 12 exams in view of the increase in Corona virus cases. The
Education Ministry had recently sought detailed suggestions from states and
union territories on the proposals discussed in a high-level meeting on the
issue. The government has informed the Supreme Court, which is hearing a plea
seeking cancellation of the examination, that it will take a final decision by June
3.
On the other hand, Delhi
Chief Arvind Kejriwal has demanded to cancel the CBSE examination.
He tweeted and wrote that I appeal to the Central Government to cancel the
Class 12 Board Exams and evaluate the students on the basis of past
performance.
