History of World Earth Day:
World Earth Day
was first celebrated in 1970. American Senator Gaylord Nelson
first started Earth Day as an education. An oil spill occurred in Santa
Barbara, California in 1969, a year before it was due to begin. Consequently,
there was a lot of damage at that time. Seeing this incident, Nelson had
made a programme.
The program was created
to solve the problems disturbing the environment and to make people aware of
the Earth's environment and Nelson Mandela celebrated Earth
Day for the first time on April 22, 1970. The main reason for
celebrating this day was the problem of oil spills, toxic substances, polluting
factories, erosion of forests and extinction of living beings at that time. And
other issues related to another environment were also brought up. Since 1970,
the celebration of Earth Day has started, under which the programmes of
this day are increasing every year.
