School Report on Career Counselling

'The future depends on what you do today.

We do not learn from experience,

We learn from reflecting on experience.'

What is Career Counselling?

Career Counselling is a process that focuses on helping one understand one’s own self, as well as work trends, so that one can take insightful decision about career and education. Career Counselling helps manage a diverse range of problems such as low concentration levels to poor time management, trust issues with family to non-agreement between parents and children on which career to choose.

Significance of Career Counselling:

The perfect time for students to seek Career Counselling is during the ages 13-17 years (8th class to 12th class). This is a time of many changes taking place in their life, both biological and emotional, such as transitioning from school to college life, and trying to ‘fit in’ with peers. It is also a time when they are highly confused and their career decisions are made. This is why they need someone to guide them in the right direction at this time.

A one day Career Guidance Programme was held in the school auditorium for the students of Classes- VIII to X on 19th October 2019 (Saturday).

The renowned 'Career Guru of India', Dr. Senthil Kumaran was the resource person. He provided valuable information to students, helping them with their academic goals, their social, personal and career developments, and how it helps in making their vision for the future clear.

He spread out the career options in the public and private sectors and the eligibility criterias for the same. He suggested a few good colleges to consider like IIMs, GIM, Symbiosis, NIFT, NIFD, IIHM etc. He mentioned that soft skills are something that is often noticed and there must be efficient communication.

He also suggested two approaches to look towards work: 'Eagle Vision' and 'Snake Vision', which roughly translates to being focussed at your work while being able to see the big picture.

Overall the programme helped the students to have a better understanding of the opportunities that could be offered by different courses and higher education.
