witness the glories of this world.
World Tourism Day is commemorated on 27th September
each year by the United Nations. Its purpose is to foster awareness,
importance of tourism, its social, cultural, political and economic value and
global challenges faced by the sector. The colour of World Tourism Day is Blue.
On the 27th of September every year since 1980,
United Nations World Tourism Organization celebrates the World
Tourism Day. On this date in 1970, the statutes of UNWTO were
chosen and hence it is a special day indeed. The date marks
the anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes in 1970.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)
is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible,
sustainable and universally accessible tourism.
The Travel
and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2019 ranked India 34th out of 140 countries overall. India improved its ranking by 6
places over the 2017 report which was the greatest improvement among the top
25% of countries ranked.
Tourism is vital for the success of many economies around the
world. There are several benefits of tourism on host destinations. Tourism boosts the revenue of the economy, creates thousands of
jobs, develops the infrastructures of a country, and plants a sense of cultural
exchange between foreigners and citizens.
The students
should know the benefits of travelling such as it improves social and
communication skills, provides peace of mind, enhances tolerance for
uncertainty, provides real life experiences and knowledge, broadens horizons,
boosts confidence and creates wonderful life time memories.
Travelling
heals the deepest of the wounds and rejuvenates your soul unlike anything else.
A Workshop on World Tourism Day
was organized in the Conference Hall of St. Joan School. The engaging and
fun filled activities of the workshop aimed to enhance critical thinking; a
creative and imaginative skill in students related to travel, broadened
students’ knowledge about travelling, travelogue, itinerary, safety instruction
cards etc. and inculcated love for travel.
The workshop was appropriately organized
for the age group of- 10 to 15 years, i.e. from Class- 5th to 10th. The school decided
to conduct it for all the parents and students of grades from Class- 5th to 10th.
This workshop provided a teacher-parent
reference manual having the detailed description of the activities along with
the required resources such as video/ PPT/ display resource/ handouts/ worksheets/
Parents’ Circular etc.
The prime aim of the day was to bring
about awareness amongst people regarding the value of tourism in any place. Tourism
is on the rise and hence people should know how it helps them and what benefits
it lends to the place of interest.
While
travelling you would realise that there is so much left in the world to be seen
and yet we fight over the tiny issues that come in everyday life.
