August 15 is celebrated as Independence Day all over India. On this day India got independence from British rule of 200 years. Independence Day is the day that reminds us of the sacrifice of our freedom fighters. This freedom given to India was very important, because for this the heroes of the country sacrificed their lives and fought a lot. Today we are independent only because of the sacrifices made by great freedom fighters like: Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Sukhdev, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Lala Lajpat Rai, Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak, Chandra Shekhar Azad etc..

On 15 August 1947, for the first time, the first Prime Minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru, unfurled the tricolour flag at the Red Fort. He also gave a speech from there, from that day onwards every year on 15th August, the Prime Minister of the country hoists the flag on the Red Fort and gives a speech. There is also a tradition of flying kites on this day.

Some Facts:

·        The Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, played an important role in getting India's independence. But you will not be aware that when India got independence, Mahatma Gandhi was not in this celebration.

History:

Why 15th August is chosen as Indian Independence Day?

Let us tell you that on 15 August 1947, India got independence from the British. Since then, India was declared an independent country. But now the question arises that why the date of celebrating Independence Day was chosen on 15th August and what was the special reason behind doing so. So, let us tell you that the British Parliament had given Lord Mountbatten the right to transfer the power of India to the Indian people till 30 June 1948. Lord Mountbatten was appointed as the last Viceroy of India in the year 1947. After which Mountbatten had chosen the date of 15 August for the independence of India.

At the same time, some historians also believe that Lord Mountbatten had chosen this date on the suggestion of C Rajagopalachari. C Rajagopalachari said that if we waited till 30 June 1948, there would be no power left to transfer. In view of this, Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India, chose 15 August as India's independence. At the same time, some also believe that the 15th was considered auspicious, due to which they chose it for the independence of India. Everyone has their own different opinion on choosing the date of independence on 15th August.

After the declaration of independence from the British, the Indian Independence Bill was introduced in the British House of Commons on 4 July 1947. In this bill, it was proposed the partition of India and made Pakistan a separate country. This bill was accepted on 18 July 1947 and after the partition on 14 August, India's independence was declared on 15 August 1947 at 12 midnight.

Many heroes have contributed significantly in getting this freedom. Independence Day is celebrated with great pomp. This year India is celebrating 75th Independence Day. According to a research by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, J.L.Nehru hoisted the tricolour from the Red Fort on 16 August 1947.

India had no national anthem on 15 August 1947. India became independent on 15 August 1947. Till this day India did not have any national anthem of its own. Rabindranath Tagore had written 'Jana-Gana-Mana' in 1911 itself, but it was declared the national anthem in 1950.
