Trust Is Much Greater Compliment Than Love

Trust and love trust and love both have made the earth a place worth living. The earth can appear heaven or hell with the presence or absence of these values. It’s the presence of these values which differentiates man from animals. Man is the best creation of God. As Shakespeare said,

“How beauteous mankind is!

O brave new world,

That has such people in it”.

Love is desired by everyone, young or old, man or woman, even animals and flowers respond to love. It is said, “The God loves them best who love his creations.” If we love each other without considering each other's caste, colour or creed, God will definitely love us. It is love which is more powerful than the sword. We can subdue a person by the power of a sword but we cannot win his heart. But love conquers all. We can enslave anybody by the power of love. The person won over by love gives his heart and soul. He will do anything to pay back for the love that he gets. He will even sacrifice his life for the sake of one who loves him truly.

Sophocles said, “One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: that word is Love.”

 Love is purely a matter of heart. Intellect plays no role in it but it’s the trust which plays an important role in the sustenance of love. Without trust, love cannot live longer. Love is said to be blind, for there was never a proud man who thought so absurdly well of himself as the lover does of the person's love. And therefore, it is well said that it is impossible to love and be wise.

Francis Bacon said, “Nuptial love maketh mankind friendly, love perfecteth it but wanton corrupteth and embasth it.”

That's why trust is a better compliment than love. It is true as Shakespeare said, “Love comforteth like sunshine after rain.” Without trust and faith, love give nothing but sorrow and suffering. Trust sustains love and love makes life beautiful. Otherwise, we find the eternal note of sadness in it, Mathew Arnold said in his poem ‘Dover Beach’:

“The sea of faith

was once, too, at the

Full and round earth’s shore

Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furl’d

But now I only hear

It's melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,

Retreating, to the breath of the night-wind,

Down the vast edges drear

And naked shingles of the world”.

Arnold found modern life devoid of truth, love and faith. In his opinion ‘The sea of faith’ was full in the past and made life charming and worth living but it is not so now. The world appears to be full of naked shingles which signifies doubts. It’s the loss of faith in love and religion which has made this universe intolerable for a decent life. Without faith, the world may appear a dark plain battlefield where ignorant armies clash by night. It is only through love that one can beat the impersonal forces which have thrown our world into strife and turmoil.

“Ah, love, let us be true to one another!” One must seek in human’s love, faith and trust which are undiscoverable elsewhere. Moreover, lovers must support each other and they must be true to one another if they are to live in the modern world without disaster. Trust in one another’s mind and heart can remove the boredom, the loneliness, the hatred, violence from the surface of the earth. The value of trust is all the most important in our present-day strife-torn world. Instead of bringing death and destruction, we should spread peace and joy by having trust in human love. Only then, the world will appear a land of dreams, full of varieties and beauties. It’s the trust in each other which makes our life so new, full of joy, light, peace and certainty. Love without trust converts us into ignorant armies who clash by night. Faith and trust show us light even in the night. Love has no meaning until there is no trust. As it is rightly said,

“You can do very little with trust

But can do nothing without trust.”

If there would be no trust between one another, then there won't be any love. Without trust only hatred is possible. One should have trust and faith towards each other. As it is rightly said,

“All else is gone: from those eyes,

The soul has fled: when faith is

lost,when honour dies, the

man is dead!”

If there is no faith and trust towards each other, it ultimately leads to war, hatred and violence. It creates a feeling of revenge, a wild justice.

Trust can also remove fear from our minds. Fear is a dangerous enemy for the whole of mankind. Fear of anything leads to instability in love and friendship. It is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom and fear can only be conquered by developing trust towards others. If every country trusts its neighbouring country, there will be no need to keep large defence forces. Robert Frost has said in ‘Mending Walls’, “Something there is that doesn't love wall.” 

We must shed all different barriers which keep us away from each other. If there is trust among each one of us, there will be love amongst us and each one can live a happy life. Love is only possible if trust is possible. It is rightly said that trust is a much greater compliment than love!!
