Dr. S. Radhakrishnan believed that, “Teachers should be the best minds in the country.” Since 1962, his birthday has been celebrated in India as Teachers’ Day on 5th September every year.
The story behind Teachers’ Day goes
that when Dr. S. Radhakrishnan
took the office of the second President of India in 1962, his students
approached him to seek permission to celebrate September 5 as a special
day. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan instead made a request of them to observe September
5 as Teachers’ Day, to recognize the contribution of teachers to the
society.
The significance of this day is
ever-evolving, including taking lessons from life and making your experiences
to shape you into who you become is all because of your teachers. It is your
teachers who make you a social or spiritual being.
World Teachers’ Day:
World Teachers’ Day is celebrated on October 5th,
but every country celebrates the day on different dates. In India, September
5 is marked as Teachers’ Day as it’s the birthday of a
highly-respected teacher, philosopher and prolific statesman, Dr. Sarvapalli
Radhakrishnan, the former President of India.
For school students, the day also means getting roses, chocolates, gifts including handmade cards to profess their affection for their favourite teachers. For senior students, Teachers’ Day is celebrated across schools, colleges, universities and educational institutions. Students put on performances, dances, and host elaborate shows for their most-loved teachers.
The splendid occasion of Teachers’ Day was celebrated with incredible gusto and zeal by the students in the school. Having an emotional and recreational touch, the day started with giving a tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishanan, who has left an indelible mark on the sands of time through his teachings.
The students presented heart warming
speeches and poems. They also enacted the classroom scenes and enthralled
everyone with their lively dance performances. The students had arranged
different games for teachers, where they all relived their good old days.

“Those who educate
children well are more to be honoured than parents, for these only gave life,
those the art of living well.”
