India will celebrate its 75th Independence Day on 15 August 2021. The first Independence Day in India was celebrated on 15 August 1947. Independence Day is celebrated in India on 15th August every year. Independence Day is celebrated with great pomp and show across the country. On this day the Prime Minister of India hoists the flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

August 15 is celebrated as Independence Day all over India. On this day India got independence from British rule of 200 years. Independence Day is the day that reminds us of the sacrifice of our freedom fighters. This freedom given to India was very important, because for this the heroes of the country sacrificed their lives and fought a lot. Today we are independent only because of the sacrifices made by great freedom fighters like: Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Sukhdev, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Lala Lajpat Rai, Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak, Chandra Shekhar Azad etc..
On 15 August 1947, for the first time, the first Prime Minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru, unfurled the tricolour flag at the Red Fort. He also gave a speech from there, from that day onwards every year on 15th August, the Prime Minister of the country hoists the flag on the Red Fort and gives a speech. There is also a tradition of flying kites on this day.
Some Facts:
· The Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, played an important role in getting India's independence. But you will not be aware that when India got independence, Mahatma Gandhi was not in this celebration.
· South Korea, Bahrain and Congo also have Independence Day as the date of 15th August. However, these countries became independent in different years in 1945, 1971 and 1960 respectively.

Why 15th August is chosen as Indian Independence Day?
Let us tell you that on 15 August 1947, India got independence from the British. Since then, India was declared an independent country. But now the question arises that why the date of celebrating Independence Day was chosen on 15th August and what was the special reason behind doing so. So, let us tell you that the British Parliament had given Lord Mountbatten the right to transfer the power of India to the Indian people till 30 June 1948. Lord Mountbatten was appointed as the last Viceroy of India in the year 1947. After which Mountbatten had chosen the date of 15 August for the independence of India.
At the same time, some historians also believe that Lord Mountbatten had chosen this date on the suggestion of C Rajagopalachari. C Rajagopalachari said that if we waited till 30 June 1948, there would be no power left to transfer. In view of this, Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India, chose 15 August as India's independence. At the same time, some also believe that the 15th was considered auspicious, due to which they chose it for the independence of India. Everyone has their own different opinion on choosing the date of independence on 15th August.
After the declaration of independence from the British, the Indian Independence Bill was introduced in the British House of Commons on 4 July 1947. In this bill, it was proposed the partition of India and made Pakistan a separate country. This bill was accepted on 18 July 1947 and after the partition on 14 August, India's independence was declared on 15 August 1947 at 12 midnight.
August 15 is a red letter day in India. This day is celebrated like a special festival in the country. The country got independence from the British rule on 15 August 1947. Many heroes have contributed significantly in getting this freedom. Independence Day is celebrated with great pomp. This year India is celebrating 75th Independence Day. Apart from India, some other countries also got independence on 15th August. These countries also celebrate Independence Day on 15th August with great pomp.
The tricolour was not hoisted from the Red Fort on 15 August 1947 on Independence Day i.e. 15 August, the Prime Minister of India hoists the tricolour from the Red Fort, but on 15 August 1947, the tricolour was not hoisted from the Red Fort. According to a research by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, J.L.Nehru hoisted the tricolour from the Red Fort on 16 August 1947.
India had no national anthem on 15 August 1947. India became independent on 15 August 1947. Till this day India did not have any national anthem of its own. Rabindranath Tagore had written 'Jana-Gana-Mana' in 1911 itself, but it was declared the national anthem in 1950.

Independence from the British rule was not easily achieved, after a lot of struggle; the day came on 15 August 1947, when India became an independent nation. The freedom struggle of India lasted for many years. Many brave sons also wrote songs to bring revolution for independence in the country. The British government had completely banned those songs and the people who wrote those songs were also harassed by the British government.

Independence Day Celebration in School:
Schools celebrate Independence Day on 15th August every year in schools with several activities and programmes. The life stories and struggles of many freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and the others are depicted through a drama.
But do you think patriotism is alive in the hearts of our younger generation? Do they respect the sacrifices of the brave heroes and martyrs who lost their lives in the wars and attacks post-independence?
The Signature School organized an Independence Day celebration plan for its school and other sister concern educational institutions on the theme - ‘The Forgotten Superheroes of India – Rekindling Patriotism’. The theme is based on life stories and struggles of soldiers/ martyrs who lost their lives in wars such as Indo China War of 1962, Indo Pak War of 1965, Kargil War, 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks etc.
The school students should know about the sacrifices of these brave men who are truly India’s superheroes.
In this special programme, the school put together the entire cultural programme based on struggles of soldiers/ martyrs who lost their lives in wars post Indian independence, the programme consisted of a drama having the roles/characters with detailed dialogues and the songs with the enchanting dance performances.
